McLaren Book and Supper Club
Sign up to join a new book and supper club beginning October 28. We will meet about once a month from November to February to eat and discuss Brian McLaren’s We Make the Road by Walking, a look at spiritual formation, reorientation, and activation. The first meeting will be pot luck at church, and details about subsequent meetings will be worked out depending on how many people sign up. Since we only have four meetings, pick up a book now and read Part 1 before the 28th. If you order through Amazon below, a portion of the cost is returned to our parish.
- October 28: Part I: Alive in the Story of Creation
- December 10: Part II: Alive in the Adventure of Jesus
- January 14: Part II: Alive in a Global Uprising
- February 25: Part IV: Alive in the Spirit of God
Mr. McLaren, noted national speaker, theologian, and author of many books, will be the featured speaker of the Holy Cross annual Guest Speaker program next March 8th and 9th.
His many books address ways churches can meet the changing needs of their congregations and the unchurched. His lectures will touch on what the Church needs to do differently to help people to have a personal encounter with God.
Mr. McLaren’s best seller books include A New Kind of Christianity, We Make the Road by Walking, for spiritual seekers on what it means to follow Christ, and Everything Must Change, that examines what the message of Jesus offers for solving issues related to the world’s most significant problems.
A former college professor, he became the founding pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church, an innovative, nondenominational church in the Baltimore-Washington area in 1982 and has since earned a reputation a popular guest speaker for denominational and ecumenical leadership gatherings in the U.S. Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Halloween Candy Tithe
We will have a collection box in the Narthex for Halloween treats from those children who pledged to tithe their trick-or-treat candy. Please drop candy off in the box. Donations will go to a local charity. Even if you didn’t pledge, feel free to join in this act of stewardship on Nov. 2 or Nov. 9.
Cooking for the Homeless
Please join us on Tuesday night, November 11 around 6:30 to prepare a delicious meal to be delivered to Safe Haven later in the week. In September we fed about 160 of our neighbors in need. This is a great opportunity to do a good deed and meet some great people. All are welcome.
Can't make it November 11? You can contribute by making corn bread any time and dropping it off in the church freezer. It will be delivered with the meal.
OWLS November Meeting
The HC OWLS (Older, Wiser and Laughing Souls) will meet on Thursday, November 6 at 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall for a brown bag lunch, program and card playing. Our program will be on the Holy Cross Memorial Garden. Come find out all about our lovely garden. After our program, anyone interested can stay longer to play cards together. Please join us for fun and fellowship. For additional information please contact the parish office.
