Brian McLaren Lecture
Brian D. McLaren, noted author, speaker, activist and public theologian will offer public lectures as part of a series of lectures sponsored by the Church of the Holy Cross. On Sunday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. he will present “A New Reformation: Make Today’s Churches More Relevant for Tomorrow’s Christians,” at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, and on Monday, March 9 at 7:30 he will speak on "Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World" at Church of the Holy Cross.
A featured speaker to overflow crowds in churches and ecumenical leadership conferences worldwide, Brian McLaren calls on churches to rethink their core mission and become communities that form Christ-like people of love. In his book, New Kind of Christianity, Brian explains that the church must “undergo a spiritual re-formation if it expects to engage children, youth, young adults, older adults and seniors in a pluralistic, high-tech, digital world we live in.”
A prolific writer, his best selling books explore the need for theological reform in a postmodern context, among them, We Make the Road By Walking and Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road?: Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World.
The lectures are part of a program sponsored by the Church of the Holy Cross. Over the years, lecturers have included Dr. John Dominic Crossan and Dr. Elaine Pagels. This lecture is sponsored by Holy Cross in association with the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, Virginia Theological Seminary and the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

Living Simply: A Program Exploring Christian Life Values
This Lent, we will spend our Sunday lunchtime exploring several different Christian values, such as simplicity, generosity, and humility. We will take these somewhat vague words, ground them in scripture, and create a simple activity that can enrich our lives throughout the week. A simple meal will be served each week at noon. Please sign up by emailing the Interim Rector at email@example.com.
