Attitudes

This curriculum helps build the whole Episcopalian. Personal growth, both emotional and spiritual, is important; as important as learning the Bible stories and gaining an understanding of how The Book of Common Prayer is organized. This course covers the relevant issues and questions that today’s youth deal with—divorce, peer pressure, relationships, as well as how God and faith fit into all of these areas. As the lesson explores each subject, there are discussion questions and related Bible passages to guide. This is a curriculum written by youth for youth. There are no right or wrong answers but instead personal answers.

This curriculum and the subjects it addresses encourages youth to experience, learn, wrestle with, and come to their own conclusions in a safe and age-appropriate way. They realize that the answers they come up with are the building blocks for our foundation as Christians and Episcopalians, and how to combine a secular and spiritual life. The teachers in this class are facilitators—they assist in guiding the class through questions and personal experience.

9th - 12th Grade

The high school group focuses on themes at the intersection of faith and life. Intentional time in conversations with the adults at Holy Cross is a significant approach to formation. In doing so, our eyes are opened to the gifts our youth bring and Holy Cross Church is more able to support youth in their ministry to the church and the world.

Confirmation Class

6th grade and up
Holy Cross offers a Confirmation class. Confirmation is a rite of passage to becoming an adult in the Episcopal Church. Confirm Not Conform (CoNC) is an Episcopal Confirmation program based on the belief that the path to confirmation is a personal one that each person experiences differently. It is a personal choice of the youth to be confirmed, not a parent’s choice or desire. The CoNC program consists of lessons, field trips, and time with mentors and ends with a CoNC celebration service.

If you are interested in being confirmed, or in your child being confirmed in the Episcopal Church, please contact the church office at 703.698.6991
